Volunteer updates for 2026
We are still waiting for the volunteer integration system updates that will allow us to use only ONE system for signups. They’ve been promising this to us for months. We are holding tight using SignupGenius as the temporary step. Just know that we want desperately to have it all on one system too.
For now, go to Volunteer Signups to sign up for shifts and more.

New volunteer? Ready to get started?
Here’s your next steps! If you’ve already completed some of the steps, keep on going. It’s an easy as 1-2-3.
Step 1: Put in an Application
You kick this whole thing off by filling out the Volunteer Application here! You can also find this inside your AutonomyProject.org dashboard under “Volunteer Opportunities”
Step 2: Attend Volunteer Orientation
Once you’ve been approved, it’s time to get you onboarded. Orientation lasts about 90 mins. Head over to our Signup Portal to register for the next in-person orientation!
Step 3: Sign up for shifts!
Completed orientation? Awesome. It’s time for you to sign up for shifts for upcoming events. There’s lots of different opportunities at the Signup Portal.
Volunteer News!
Did you know we’re entirely volunteer-run? Yes, really.
One of the things that sets us apart is that the Autonomy Project is entirely volunteer run. No one gets paid here! This isn’t a bar or club putting on events for the financial benefit of one person. This is a collaborative labor of love by our community to create something that’s never been done before in Columbus.
- Everything we do is for us, by us.
- Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our community.
- We’re all neurodivergent and believe this is a superpower, not a flaw.
- We believe that everyone participates, no spectators.
- We believe that healing, safety, and inclusion comes from the community.
- We believe that weird is wonderful and we welcome everyone’s unique brand of weirdness.

Getting Started

A comprehensive guide to our Volunteer and Command Team Code of Conduct.
Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. - Unknown

Learn more about the Command Team →
The command team is the group of amazing humans who make this organization run. Command team folks can be remote, in-person, or hybrid. Roles can be filled with as a little as a few hours a week, and not only will you be helping to create the magic from the inside, we look damn good on a resume.
Learn more about our unique culture of teamwork →
Many of our roles can be done completely remotely, and they only require you to be communicative (we use Slack) and enthusiastic about working in a team environment. We provide all the training and mentorship you might want.
Thank you for everything you do.
Our volunteer team is over 150 people and counting. Now you make one more!
We’re here to make a real, lasting impact on the world around us and we can’t do it alone.
